June 2018 The trailhead for this hike is located at the Kohn Yah-Mah-Nee Visitor Center. This was a great hike with some amazing scenery! It was about 3.5 miles in and out, but it seemed longer because there were many ups and downs even though the total elevation doesn't change very much. It was so beautiful though! It was a perfect sunny day and many flowers were in bloom. Love this hike!
June 2018 Sulphur Works is a hydrothermal area right by the main road with a parking lot close by. There are boiling pools and mud pots that release sulphur steam. We visited early and it wasn't crowded. It was really interesting to see, but the smell made me a bit nauseous!
Lassen Peak Area & Lake Helen/Emerald Lake
June 2018 At the time we visited, the lower elevation areas of the park were lush and green, but the Lassen Peak area still had a substantial amount of snow and the lakes were mostly frozen.
Kings Creek Falls
June 2018 The falls were magnificent and we almost missed them! There's one point far into the hike where the signage isn't clear and it's easy to think that you're at the actual falls, but they're just small falls. I had bought a postcard earlier with a picture of Kings Creek Falls, so I was pretty sure we had not found it yet. Another hiker steered us in the right direction and we found it! We were also able to scramble down to the base of the falls and that's where the best view is. The whole hike is great with some fabulous scenery. It's about three miles round-trip.
